Metal & Paper - visit www.potterusa.com"Kevin has never met a tool he didn't like!" May 15 Order Stakes from our website www.potterusa.com We have a website featuring all the tools and dies we make at www.potterusa.com I have a 20 ton and 50 ton press we make, dies to use in the presses, as well as stakes, t-stakes and soon will have leather shot bags for forming as well. July 04 Maintenance of your Metalforming StakesRust Prevention The best way to prevent rust on your stakes is to use them. But, barring daily use, you can spray them with WD-40 or you can do a traditional copper-plating by placing them in your pickle bucket that is well-saturated with copper and they will plate themselves and will not rust. Re-Shaping & Polishing If you decide that you want to change a profile or angle on your stake, you can. Just by using a file or grinder or sander you can alter the shape. To restore the fine polish that is on them, sand well with various grits of sandpaper and use Tripoli and rouge for your final finish. Quote Metalforming Stakes Metalforming Stakes The metal-forming stakes that appear on this page are for sale in our Ebay store, or you can just contact me directly at kevdanaz@msn.com. The ebay store is located at: http://stores.ebay.com/Metalsmith-Tools Most of the forming stakes are $50 and are made here at my shop in Arizona by me. I make them in small batches of 10 at a time. So, if I am out of one particular size or shape it won't be long before it's back in stock. The stakes are made out of 1018 steel. It is unhardened so that you can dress them and polish them to suit your needs. They are significantly harder than the older cast-iron stakes and will last many lifetimes. I didn't make them out of hardened tool steel because you would not be able to polish or dress them and you'd be stuck with what I thought was a good form. Plus, hardened stakes are totally unnecessary in this application. If you are hammering hot steel with a 5 lb. sledge, then perhaps they would be warranted. But for general silversmithing and metal shaping work these will be superior to all others available. I offer a full refund if you are not satisfied and I will guarantee them against breakage or bending. I can repair, replace, straighten or re-polish them if necessary. |
